Bakhsh-Abad Hydropower Dam
It’s reported that on June 15, Afghanistan Ministry of Energy and Water signed the design contract of the Farah province’s Bakhsh-Abad Hydropower Dam with an Italian company. Construction of this project would take at least 18 months to complete all its designing schemes and it would cost $4.5 million.
After completion, this important national program will generate electricity 27 megawatt, irrigate 100,000 hectares of farmland in five districts. It will have the capacity to save annually more than 1.3 billion cubic meter of water, avoid water waste and prevent seasonal flood alongside Farah Rood River.
Bakhsh-Abad Dam will also control 75 percent of Farah’s water, provide thousands of job opportunities for needy employees and agricultural productions will be increased from 40 to 80 percent.
40 years ago, Afghan government had started economical designation of Bakhsh-Abad Hydropower Dam, but it was postponed for many years due to security challenges.
Government asked Farah people to cooperate with government in keeping security of the dam and not to let any destroyers to damage the public project.
Besides external protection, dam’s self-support should also be strengthened. Self drilling anchor bolt in dam mainly reflects in supporting foundation, diversion tunnel and slope, which help to stabilize surrounding rock condition, reinforce soil intensity, enhance bonding strength and increase dam’s bearing capacity.
