Grand Opening of the World’s Longest and Deepest Rail Tunnel

Longest and Deepest Rail Tunnel

The world’s longest and deepest rail tunnel has officially opened in Switzerland on June 1, 2016, after almost two decades of construction work. The Gotthard rail link has taken 20 years to build, and cost more than $12bn (£8.2bn). It will, the Swiss say, revolutionise Europe’s freight transport.

The 57km (35-mile) twin-bore Gotthard base tunnel will provide a high-speed rail link under the Swiss Alps between northern and southern Europe. Switzerland says it will revolutionise European freight transport. Goods currently carried on the route by a million lorries a year will go by train instead. The tunnel will shave off many hours for both passengers and goods transportation. It took 23 years to complete but, measuring 57 kilometers from portal to portal, it is also the world’s longest and deepest traffic tunnel ever built.

Self drilling anchor system is a unique anchoring system and fulfills current and increasing demands of the tunneling industry for safer and faster production. It combines drilling, grouting and anchoring together. It ensures the anchoring effect in complex ground conditions. It’s safe, reliable and efficient. The operation is simple, cost is low, construction is convenient and efficiency is clear.
