Padma Bridge Rail Link Project
It’s reported on August 9, Bangladesh Railway officially signed contract about Padma Bridge Rail Link Project with a Chinese company. Total amount of this project is 349.88 billion BDT and it’s the largest railway project in the history of Bangladesh.
This project is located in the midwest of Bangladesh, from Dacca, through Bridge and then to Jessore, overall length is 215.22 km. Project construction difficulty is quite great, including 43.22 km patrol line and lateral line, 66 large-scale bridges, 244 small bridges and culverts, 21.85 km viaduct, etc. It is predicted to be completed and operated in 2018 before general election.
New constructed railway is about 168.6 km, singlet line and wide gauge, speed target value is 120 km/h.
Padma Bridge is a road-rail bridge under construction crossing Padma River in Bangladesh. Overall length of this bridge is 6 km. It is one of the important passages connecting China with Trans-Asian Railway in Southeast Asia.
It’s well known that railway is the main artery in national economy and the important infrastructure for people’s traveling. The construction of Padma Bridge and Padma Bridge Rail Link Project will finish completely the ferry history between 21 districts in south of Bangladesh and Dacca. Also, they will improve traffic condition in weat and southwest, enhance living quality and promote development of social economy.
